Puglia Cheese pioneered burrata production in South Africa in 2010, bringing a format that was virtually unknown in the local market at the time and establishing a benchmark for Italian-style fresh cheese that has held ever since. Puglia Cheese was founded in Cape Town in 2010 by three Italian friends from the Puglia region, driven by a simple ambition: to bring authentic Italian mozzarella craft to South Africa. What began as a small artisan dairy quickly earned recognition, winning multiple awards at the South African Dairy Championships and becoming the first producer of burrata in the country.
