About The Product

Garofalo Orzo is a small, rice-shaped pastina made from 100% durum wheat semolina, produced in Gragnano, Italy under IGP (Protected Geographical Indication) certification. Also known as risoni in Italy — a reference to the grain of rice it closely resembles — orzo is one of the most internationally recognised small pasta formats, widely used across Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cooking as well as the Italian tradition. The name orzo, meaning "barley" in Italian, has become the standard term in English-speaking markets, making it one of the more versatile formats for a retail catalogue with cross-cultural appeal.

Bronze-drawn for a consistency that enriches every broth. Produced using traditional Gragnano IGP methods and drawn through bronze dies, each grain develops a texture and consistency that absorbs broth gradually and enriches its flavour in the process. Unlike rice or other grains used in soup, orzo holds its structure without becoming starchy or heavy in the surrounding liquid — delivering a clean, satisfying result in both light broths and more substantial soup preparations. That reliability, combined with a fast cook time, makes it an efficient and low-maintenance format for professional kitchens.

A highly versatile pastina for retail and foodservice. Orzo adapts comfortably across soup, salad, and quick pasta dish applications, making it one of the more broadly useful small formats in the range. Supplied by Sapori in a 16 x 500g case, it suits Kosher and vegan-certified restaurants, catering kitchens, and wholesale accounts across Cape Town and the Western Cape looking for an IGP-certified Italian pastina with genuine Gragnano provenance.
